Takako Hotta is a successful model and actress from Tokyo, Japan and is also a qualified dentist! We fortunately managed to drag Takako away from the dentist’s chair, studio and stage to complete a spotlight interview for Urbanity Chic. Read on to find out what inspires her, how she would define her personal style and what she is hoping to achieve in 2011.

Q: How did you get into fashion modeling?
I was actually approached by a scout when I was 9 years old at my Dad and step-Mum’s wedding. Since then I’ve been modeling throughout my studies up until now.
Q: How was 2010 for you?
It was the year of my rebirth as a person. I actually had a really bad year in 2009, one of the most hard years of my life, so I wanted to try something new in 2010! I started to really get into acting and also build up my clientele being a dentist too! I started to do more acting lessons and when I had some free time attended auditions. I managed to get more roles in some films!
Q: What inspires you?
Many things like movies, music, books and fashion. Mostly anything artistic. Also meeting my great friends and making new friends gives me inspiration.
Q: Which modern day fashion designers or fashion icons do you look up to?
It depends on my feeling at the time. However, at the moment, actually no one. I design clothes myself and when I travel to Thailand, Vietnam, I go to a tailor to make them. I love the fact that a tailor is making clothes that I design 🙂
Of course I have been affected and inspired by great designers like Chanel, Lanvin, D&G, Hermes, Cavalli, Vivian,Shangh Hai Tan and some Japanese labels.
Q: Do you prefer to shoot on location or in the studio?
I love both. Both have good sides and bad sides. Wherever I am ,I feel totally free when I am in front of camera.
Q: How do you prepare for a fashion shoot or show?
I take a long bath and try to get sleep enough.
I don’t want to ruin the show because of the condition of my skin,hair or because of my tiredness.

Q: Do you have a favourite photograph?
A lot!! but unfortunately I don’t remember who took them….
Q: Who is your favourite photographer?
For now it’s Daniel Danz Peretz, Ivan Toscanelli and Tokuyuki Matsubuchi.They are my friends, too.
Q: Is there anybody you would like to work with?

Q: What does fashion mean to you?
Working in fashion makes me happy and gives me energy. Also fashion allows me to express myself. By looking at your sense of fashion other people can tell what kind of person you are. So in other words my fashion is another Takako Hotta. 🙂
Q: How would you define your personal style?
My personal style of fashion is very unique and is Takako style. 🙂 I love what I love. I wanna wear what I wanna wear.
When I buy clothes there is no logic basically. I just fall in love with them!
I don’t care whether its bland, used or new, the colour and even the style. It has to look good on me though and make me happy!!

Q: Where are you based?
Tokyo,Japan but I’m planning to move abroad in the near future.
Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?
Good. I like it.We have everything here in Tokyo. Nice food, beautiful clothes and some radiation. Lol
Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
For now, my highlight was watching myself in the cinema playing the second main role in a feature film!

Q: What are you hoping to achieve in 2011?
I’m hoping to achieve many things in 2011!!
1.I am in the top 50 of the World Supermodel Pageant. So I want to be one of finalists and hopefully the winner. (http://www.worldsupermodelpageant.com/supermodels_2011.html)
2.I also applied to the 2011 Miss Asia so I want to be finalist in this competition too and have the opportunity to travel to Honk Kong. I love HK. 🙂
3. I am on IMDb as well. so I want to get role more good movies this year! (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm4212035/)
4. I want to be able to speak Chinese and English better.
5. I’d really like to visit Abu Dhabi.
Q: What do you do to relax?
Take a bath whilst watching a DVD. I take bath at least twice a day where I either watch a DVD or listen to music.
Q: What songs are on your ipod at the moment?
Loads of different kinds of music!! I love classical and deep house music. Actually I listen to all genres. The most important thing is if it has soul and is genuine.

Q: Do you have interesting hobbies?
I suppose being a dentist is a hobby 🙂 so how about making dentures or tooth extraction. Lol
No actually dentistry is my current job (lol) so is not a hobby, so my interesting hobby would be acting!
Q: If you could give a little piece of advice for new models or aspiring models what would it be?
Be original and use your brain.
Q: What motivates you to do what you do?
The passion to help make the world better even if i am a small person.
Everyone has a reason why we are here. I believe that I can be something good for this world.
