Amie Jade is an upcoming fashion model from Sussex, UK and is Urbanity Chic’s latest feature model competition winner. We were delighted when Amie completed the interview both so that we can share her creative portfolio of fashion shots with you and also give her a chance to discuss what she does! Q: How did you get into fashion modeling?
When I was working promoting night clubs at 18, I was approached by a few photographers who said I ‘looked photogenic’, so I agreed to some test shoots and got some very amateur photos! I didn’t start with fashion, but after experimenting with different sorts of images I decided I had more of ‘the look’ for fashion. This was enough to give me confidence to contact other photographers through various websites and it continued from there!
Q: How was 2010 for you?
A hard, educational, fun year. I decided to go travelling and so started saving all the money I earned! I got into a lot of (free) outdoor activities like climbing, cycling, gymnastics, jogging, swimming, and more! It also taught me how easy it is to manage your money.
Q: Who inspires you?
Image wise:
- Kate Moss, I love her. I love the vague/lost/blank expression, it creates a lot of emotion in an image.
- -- Lily Cole too 🙂
Fashion wise:
-- I generally just pick out what I think would look a bit strange thrown together, and depending on my mood that changes constantly.
Generally:
-- I am inspired by people who aren’t happy with living the normal, mundane day. I love watching people want more with their lives, who really push for something better. People that want to be their own boss and create something totally different.

Q: Do you prefer to shoot on location or in the studio?
Studio. I love the fact that it is so limitless. It’s like a blank canvas, and you can create ANYTHING you like on it -- no restrictions.
Q: How do you prepare for a fashion shoot or show?
I make sure I eat well and drink lots of water (something I usually do anyway). I like to do a face mask the night before, wash my hair, double check my nails and chill. If I need to bring clothes, then I prepare outfits. I generally like to get about 10 hours sleep before a shoot!
Q: Do you have a favourite photograph?
Other work -- no, I love SO many images, I probably couldn’t even narrow it down to 25!
My own work -- no. I usually love all new ones as I’m constantly trying different things, but I still can’t get tired of my old work either.
Q: Is there anybody you would like to work with?
I love working with anyone with an open mind. All creatives who are confident in their work and abilities. People that want to try everything and anything.

Q: What does fashion mean to you?
To me it represents how you feel. Everyone has different moods and personalities and you dress accordingly. I don’t follow trends, I just put on what I feel like wearing that day. It’s an attitude for your body. You feel sexy -- you let the world know through what you wear. It’s very expressive.
Q: How would you define your personal style?
Totally changes from day to day. Depends on my mood! If I feel lazy, I’m in trackies, hoody, trainers and no make up. If I’m feeling excited I’ll wear something a bit crazy to show that!
Shoot wise -- I am a blank canvas -- paint me!
Q: Where are you based?
South-East England.
Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?
It’s pushes me to do more with my life. There’s quite a bit of violence and crime where I am and it motivates me to make something of myself and get out of here!

Q: What are you hoping to achieve in 2011?
I’ve just got back from Australia! Where I’ve spent a few amazing months travelling, exploring, shooting and living it up in the sun! I’m hopefully going to Egypt in July for a month to accompany my boyfriend (Liam Walsh) on some work and hopefully get myself some work (he’s a magician, and is promoting a company out there). I’m also going to Italy and am looking for some photographers to work with out there! I am looking to up the anti this year and REALLY go for it!
Q: What do you do to relax?
I dance, read, watch movies, design.
Q: What songs are on your ipod at the moment?
Pssh LOADS. I listen to most things from the top 40 chart to death metal! I like a lot of music!
Q: Do you have interesting hobbies?
I LOVE dancing. I do street dance and belly dancing. Iyenga yoga. I’ve just started BMXing! I’m a practicing MUA and photographer. I love editing photos. I’m learning coding for my upcoming website! Just started gymnastics again -- to hopefully push me into free running!
Q: If you could give a little piece of advice for new models or aspiring models what would it be?
DO NOT STOP. Don’t let anyone get you down, put you off, discourage you. Keep your chin up and keep going, you will get there.

Q: What motivates you to do what you do?
I LOVE creating. I love meeting new people and combining ideas to make these awesome images! I love trying new things and making something real.
I love the challenge -- there are so many people wanting to get into the industry, it’s not easy! I love being my own boss. I love the thought of doing something so limitless with my life, the fact it can take you round the world and make an impression on SO many people.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?
People would describe me as feisty, fun, mad and a 100% people person. I want to experience life to the MAX.
