Nicolas Michael is an upcoming actor and model based from London and is our latest Starnow competition winner. Although Nicolas is working hard pursuing both acting and modeling career assignments as well as completing his studies he kindly agreed to complete a feature interview for Urbanity Chic. Read on to find out who inspires Nicolas, how he prepares for a shoot and what he’s hoping to achieve over the next 12 months.
Q: How did you get into fashion modeling?
It actually came from nowhere. I have more an acting background and it never crossed my mind that it was something I could get into and one day just decided to get a portfolio and the photographer said to me I could get commercial work quite easily so I decided to contact a few agencies and it went from there.
Q: How have the last 12 months been for you?
The last 12 months have been tough as I’m still a student and therefore its been difficult to put 100% into pursuing a career but its also been fun. I like a challenge and have started to contact commercial agents to find work and so I look forward to meeting with them and getting more experience.
Q: Who inspires you?
My role models are mainly based in the film industry as it is a very difficult profession and something I work towards daily. These people keep me inspired, which keeps me motivated to think one day I could work with or around them. To name them all would take up the whole interview but I’ll give a few names:
-- Leonardo Dicaprio
-- Edward Norton
-- Guy Ritchie
-- Gary Oldman
-- Denzel Washington
-- Martin Scorsese
Q: Which modern day fashion designers or fashion icons do you look up to?
Lacoste, Adidas, Calvin Klein, Armani, love their styles and commercial side of things! It would be a great moment to work with one and to work with them all a dream
Q: Do you prefer to shoot on location or in the studio?
It really doesn’t bother me where I shoot as long as I’m warm with a bottle of water I’m fine, as I like to experience as much as possible and new locations make it more exciting.
Q: How do you prepare for a fashion shoot or show?
The main thing for me is to try and keep my skin clear so if I know I’m working in a week’s time I just lay off the sugars and drink lots of water.
Q: Do you have a favourite photographer?
Paul Harrison. I’ve got on well with Paul since the first time I worked with him. He knew how to shoot me and it made it more comfortable for myself and made an enjoyable environment and he was actually the person who saw my potential for commercial modeling.
Q: Is there anybody you would like to work with?
Of course my acting role models as stated earlier. In modeling I’m not to sure with people as to be honest there are so many its hard to say.
Q: What does fashion mean to you?
I think its something that can make someone feel really good about themselves if you can control it. I love clothes and when I buy a polo shirt I get very excited and also feel brand new but I would never get to a state where I would let it control my life. Food will always come first for me!
Q: How would you define your personal style?
Very casual. Chinos, polo shirts, cardigans, jumpers, Adidas pump trainers. I also like to dress up smart as I like wearing shirts
Q: Where are you based?
London and the Midlands
Q: What are you hoping to achieve over the next 12 months?
I would like to have a contract or season shoot with Lacoste or Adidas as I feel I suit their style. I also love their style so would be enjoyable for me to work with those brands, and also gain more experience in the commercial filed of modeling, TV ads etc. and also to concentrate more on my main passion of TV and film
Q: What do you do to relax?
I currently have a massage chair that is awesome so I like to watch the telly and get a nice massage after the bath.
Q: Where would your favourite holiday (vacation) be and why?
African safari as I love animals and to see them in their natural habitat would be cool.
Q: What songs are on your iPod at the moment?
Just bought a new iPhone and so far enjoying ushers new album so that’s just on there so far
Q: Do you have any interesting hobbies?
My main hobby is keeping fit. Going to the gym is not really interesting but fun once you get into it.
Q: If you could give a little piece of advice for new or aspiring models what would it be?
To avoid and be careful what agencies you contact their are many that try to take your money for portfolios when you should be able to provide your own. Concentrate on your personal look as this will build confidence and a unique attribute and help you find work as you can fit in categories. Try and gain experience and get as much work as possible as this will also help your CV, help meet new people in the business and also get your face recognised more.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?
Visit my starnow page it’s a new site for me only been on for 5 months it would be helpful and I will be grateful. So check it out or check me out 🙂 thanks
