Amy Henn is an upcoming fashion and editorial model from London. Amy is currently studying at the Institute of Contemporary Musical Performance in London and despite her hectic schedule we were delighted when she completed a feature interview with Urbanity Chic so we could let you know a bit about her experiences, interests and aspirations. Read on to discover how Amy prepares for a fashion shoot or show, how she would define her personal style and what she does to relax when not working.
Q: How did you get into fashion modeling?
I had never really thought about modeling until I was about 15. I paid for a photo shoot at the Blue Rooms in London. However I didn’t take it any further at the time, probably because I was quite young. When I left school I went to college to study Music. This is because I want to be a professional singer. I have just started at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP). I felt that modeling would be a great way to improve my confidence whilst doing something I really enjoy, so I paid for another photo shoot just before I turned 18 and have since applied to a lot of jobs.
Q: How was 2010 for you?
2010 was a good year for me as I had just started a level 3 Music course at college and was gaining experience at performing on stage in various bands.
Q: Who inspires you?
Beyonce is definitely my main inspiration. She’s got it all, looks, amazing voice, professional dancer; who wouldn’t want to be her?
Q: Which modern day fashion icons do you look up to?
At the moment I am obsessed with Kim Kardashian. I always watch her reality series and pick up ideas from her different outfits, hair and make up.
Q: Do you prefer to shoot on location or in the studio?
I have only done a location shoot once but I would definitely say it was more exciting because you’re out in the open in front of anyone who may walk past. At the same time though, I do feel more comfortable in a studio because there is less pressure as the public can’t stop and look at you.
Q: How do you prepare for a fashion shoot or show?
I have an audition coming up so I will definitely make sure I get plenty of sleep the night before and have everything I need ready to take with me.
Q: Is there anybody you would like to work with?
Singing wise I would ultimately love to work with Beyonce. I am also loving Adele at the moment as well as Christina Aguilera.
When it comes to modeling, I would love to work with Kim Kardashian.
Q: What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion is very important to me because I feel it’s a way to express yourself and your personality. But mostly I just enjoy getting ready for a night out and feeling good in the clothes you wear.
Q: How would you define your personal style?
I like to keep in with the trends but also stand out.
Q: Where are you based?
At the moment I live in Kent, but I will be moving to London next month.
Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?
I like living in Kent. It’s not a busy as London so I will be sad when I move but also quite excited.
Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
I did a catwalk show for the launch of Lavaliere UK clothing line. I’d never done a catwalk before so I was pretty nervous but once I’d done it I wanted to do it all over again.
Q: What do you do to relax?
I enjoy Yoga and used to do that a lot but now I tend to relax when I do breathing exercised before I sing.
Q: What songs are on your iPod at the moment?
Beyonce’s new album is practically on repeat on my iPod at the moment. Also there’s some Paramore songs and Christina Aguilera.
Q: Do you have interesting hobbies?
I love singing and dancing; although I’ve never taken any dance classes but I enjoying dancing when I go out clubbing.
