Q: How did you get into fashion modeling?
Well I took modeling classes locally when I was 16 and hated it as all I seen was parents yelling at their daughters at a big modeling conference, so that kind of always stuck in my mind when it came to fashion, years later I started up again doing lingerie and bikini and that was my forte until about early 2010 when I had a test shoot for pacific night life magazine, when I seen the pics I loved it and knew right away I wanted to expand my style into fashion as well, I’ve done a couple fashion shoots since then but would definitely love to do more…SOON 😉 !!
Q: How was 2010 for you?
2010 was absolutely amazing for me, best year ever I’m pretty sure lol. I started off 2010 by being picked to take part in a 5-day shootout in Beverly Hills for teaseum.com. When I got to the mansion we were staying at/shooting at it was like nothing I had ever seen before, about 20 beautiful girls and 8 photographers were there and everybody was so nice! Between the other girls and the photographers I learned so much that I don’t think I would have ever picked up on if I never went. After that I started networking more and making tons of new friends, I started to make a name for myself and then all sorts of opportunities came my way, I had a part in a movie in may (not finished yet though) and then in September I was contacted to go to Taiwan for a 2.5 week shoot! Although everyone was very nervous about me going I took the chance and went anyways, it also turned out to be a great experience and I’m going back this Sept.! The day I was leaving to Taiwan I got a call from a guy who ran this site called hardcorefighter.com, earlier that month I had put up a profile to try and win the title of spokes model, he told me since I was leaving (contest end date was when I was in Taiwan) and he couldn’t get a hold of me he wanted to tell me I was so far ahead of the other girls that I had already won! Me and the other girl who won got a free trip to Mexico in Oct. and we are now close friends :), then in December I got a part in a short student film that was very fun! So that was my 2010 in a nutshell…like I said. Amazing!!
Q: Who inspires you?
Anybody who’s young and ambitious and extremely full of life and positivity is inspiring to me, its so easy to fall into others negative emotions so to be around people who truly strive for what they want and keep a positive outlook is very encouraging and makes me want to be a better person for myself and for my daughter.
Q: Which modern day fashion designers or fashion icons do you look up to?
I don’t really follow fashion shows etc. too much but I do like Kelly Cutrone because she tells it like it is and is a hard working women, Id probably cry if I worked with her though.she’s intimidating!!
Q: Do you prefer to shoot on location or in the studio?
It depends on my mood really and what I’m looking to achieve in the shoot. I love on location shoots because I love being outdoors and the way the natural light looks on my pictures but I also love shooting in a studio because its almost like being on set and I feel great when I’m on set ha-ha
Q: Do you have any interesting stories about a particular photo shoot, or a casting you’d like to share?
When I was in Taiwan I felt super awkward because the workshops that I did was me as the model and anywhere from 6-10 Asian photographers who spoke little to no English and they would all talk amongst each other and then laugh and I had no idea what they were saying about me! Once I got into it though I was learning some words and at the end of the trip at my last couple shoots I was acting like I knew what they were saying and they didn’t know what to think ha-ha.
Q: How do you prepare for a fashion shoot or show?
I like to turn up my music and dance around and practice poses in my mirror and just have fun and get pumped!
Q: Do you have a favorite photograph?
I know its kind of lame and it’s not really a photograph but I love pictures of kitties with captions saying things, I’m a cat lover and it just makes me laugh! But as for actual photographs I’d have to say the very first photo taken of Marilyn Monroe for playboy, the one of her with the red background, its a very sexy iconic photo and I feel like it really paved the way for many young models to feel comfortable in their own skin 🙂
Q: Who is your favorite photographer?
I really love James Hickeys work, he’s a photographer from la and his photos always catch my eye, very bright and vivid. What really got me interested in him though were his burning man photos! Its a huge music festival in the middle of the desert, music fests are my life and although I have yet to go to burning man I can just look at his album and get a feel of what its like, makes me want to go even more: D
Q: Is there anybody you would like to work with?
Once again too many!!…Christian Louboutin (his shoes are my dream, I don’t even own one pair yet..sad girl!), James hickey, Oscar Blandi and Vanessa Evelyn (Petra Alexandra) if I had all of them working on me it would be the most amazing photo shoot of all time (for me anyways) 🙂 but there’s still tonsssss more id like to work with!!
Q: What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion to me is a way for one to express their individuality, whether it be through their clothes, accessories, shoes or hair and makeup, its self expression, shows who you are and what your about!
Q: How would you define your personal style?
Again my style depends on so many things, my mood, the atmosphere, the weather…I’m very diverse. I love to dress up, beautiful heels, sexy dresses and sparkly jewelry, but I can be relaxed with stretch pants and a comfy tank, I also love mixing old fashion into new fashion…even though every fashion basically stems from old??!! so that’s kind of contradicting and silly when I say it out loud haha
Q: Where are you based?
Kelowna, B.C., Canada!!! but. I’m always available to travel. Wink wink!!
Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?
beautiful!!! you can really have the best of all the seasons, from ski hills to golf courses and wineries to lakes, Kelowna has it all. One of the only places that you can go snowboarding and then golfing later that day. The music scene here is great, so much local talent and many entertainment companies bringing the best shows to the clubs. The variety of people is cool because it’s so diverse and there are so many different people from totally different backgrounds, I have such a wide spectrum of friends from hippies to models, and I love all of them!
Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
still waiting for something huge to happen, ill have to get back to you on this one 😉
Q: What are you hoping to achieve in 2011?
I would love to be accepted into Playboy by the end of this year and gain lots more exposure. I just recently started my own promotions company so Id like to see that grow and hopefully have my daughter potty trained by the end of the year as well!!!!! Lol
Q: What do you do to relax?
After a stressful or long day I like to snuggle with my daughter (she’s 2) and then have a hot bath with bubbles and candles and then salt n vinegar chips and a scary movie…I’m a huge scary movie fan!
Q: What songs are on your iPod at the moment?
Wayyyyy to many to list haha, I don’t really listen to too much top 40 radio stuff aside from Adele 🙂 so you will find dubstep, drum and bass and more electronic types of music, I love to dance 😉
Q: Do you have interesting hobbies?
My little girl Deja!! dancing (I’m a gogo dancer!!) music festivals, cats, cooking, camping (haven’t went for much too long!) bargain hunting and shopping for things to add to my tickle trunk 😀 its a prized possession…every girl likes to play dress up once in awhile, if she says she doesn’t. She’s lying!!
Q: If you could give a little piece of advice for new or aspiring models what would it be?
Network network network!!!! you have to put yourself out there, take chances!!! practice in the mirror, smile, don’t smile, be sexy, be romantic, be you!!! just have fun with it and make it your own!!
Q: What motivates you to do what you do?
My daughter!! I want to be the best I can be for her and for myself and stay true to my beliefs and what I love to do! oh and all the people that doubt me, the haters…they really motivate me to achieve my goals, without them I probably wouldn’t push myself to keep going. I’ve had a lot of people try to discouraged me and make me break but its made me who and what I am today.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to let our readers know about?
I just recently started my own promo company and its a big goal for me as I’ve wanted to pursue it for quite some time, I have a beautiful little girl who’s just over 2 years old named Deja Jade, she’s everything to me, she’s a little weirdo and I see myself every time I look at her which is strange and fabulous at the same time lol, I’ve hosted 6 music festivals on my parents 40 acre property and that’s what really got me into music and festivals. I grew up in a town with less then 200 people in the middle of the forest and always knew that I needed to live in a big city (hopefully la soon) I love anything pink and bright, glitter and sparkles, I LOVE cats!! I’d have 50 if I could!! I want to own a zoo one day so I can have animals around all the time…clearly I’m a huge animal lover 🙂 I don’t really know how to swim but I love being in water, I’m not your average model, I swear too much, I’m a little crazy and rough around the edges! but I keep everything professional 🙂 I use to be blonde and I really miss it!! I want to make it into playboy and meet Hef. Its my biggest dream…ever!! not even kidding 🙂 he’s my fav!! so that’s me…I hope I’m at least interesting enough for you to have finished reading!! love and light xoxoxo
