Stephie Joustra is an upcoming commercial model from Auckland, New Zealand. Although Stephie is currently working hard on her first year of her University studies whilst taking steps in the fashion industry in New Zealand, we were delighted at Urbanity Chic when she completed a feature interview. Read on to find out about how she got into modeling, who her favourite photographer is and what other hobbies and skills she has.

Q: How did you get into fashion modeling?
Got scouted in a mall!
Q: Who inspires you?
My mum – she is amazing.
Q: Which modern day fashion designers or fashion icons do you look up to?
I look up to anyone that has worked amazingly hard to be where they are now.
Q: Do you prefer to shoot on location or in the studio?
Location – but studio is fine also

Q: Do you have an interesting stories about a particular photo shoot, or a casting you’d like to share?
Going to a fashion casting when I had never ever walked down a catwalk before! Managed to pull it off and got booked though!
Q: How do you prepare for a fashion shoot or show?
Make sure I eat enough before hand so I don’t get hungry in hair and makeup – and make sure my skin is looking really good
Q: Who is your favourite photographer?
Greg Novak.
Q: Is there anybody you would like to work with?
No one in particular – but anyone who is passionate about what they do and wants the best image possible

Q: What does fashion mean to you?
A way to express your personality and create confidence
Q: How would you define your personal style?
Very girlie!
Q: Where are you based?
Auckland – Muriwai Beach.
Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?
Amazing – I have lived here for 14 years now and it’s amazing to live so close to the beach on a farm, but only 30mins from Auckland’s CBD
Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
A fashion show with Cuda Sisters – was so much fun and so creative

Q: What are you hoping to achieve in 2011?
Hoping to get some more work modeling – and gain really good grades in my first year of university
Q: What do you do to relax?
Ride my horses and run.
Q: What songs are on your ipod at the moment?
Upbeat songs – generally ones on the radio that I can run and dance to.
Q: Do you have interesting hobbies?
I am the current junior national champion for showhunter (equestrian)
Q: If you could give a little piece of advice for new or aspiring models what would it be?
Put yourself out there – if you want it enough and are prepared to put the work in you will get there.
Q: What motivates you to do what you do?
Having that amazing thrill of walking down a catwalk – nothing beats it.
