Kerry Won is a fashion photographer from Auckland New Zealand. When we noticed Kerry’s individual yet commercial portfolio of work we were really keen to share it with you. Read on to discover what Kerry’s favourite photograph is, which modern day fashion designers he looks up to and how he relaxes when not working.
Q: How did you get into professional photography?
I can’t exactly say I’m pro yet, just getting a few paid jobs here and there but still compiling my portfolio.
Q: What do you enjoy most photographing?
Women, because they’re more beautiful than anything else.
Q: How was 2010 for you?
It was a busy year, finishing off my degree in Fine Arts.
Q: Who inspires you?
Bond, James Bond.
Q: Which modern day fashion designers or fashion icons do you look up to?
Christian Louboutin. Enough said.
Q: Do you prefer using film cameras or digital?
I love working in the darkroom, but digital.
Q: Do you prefer to shoot on location or in the studio?
I find on location shoots are much more interesting and fun to do.
Q: Do you have a specific style of photography that makes you unique?
Currently under investigation.
Q: Do you have a favourite photograph?
My most significant favourite has to be Ansel Adams’ Monolith. It changed my whole perspective on photography.
Q: Who is your favourite photographer?
There are so many. But the first ones that pop into my head are Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, Javier Vallhonrat.
Q: Is there anybody you would like to work with (either behind or in front of the camera)?
Christian Louboutin and Mona Johannesson, simultaneously.
Q: What does fashion mean to you?
Q: How would you define your personal style?
Q: Where are you based?
Auckland, New Zealand.
Q: What’s it like being where you’re from?
Yeah nah, it’s all good aye bro.
Q: What are you hoping to achieve in 2011?
More technical knowledge and a larger clientele.
Q: What do you do to relax?
I usually sit down.
Q: What songs are on your ipod at the moment?
Mostly death metal and classical. Says here most played is ‘Hammer Smashed Face’ by Cannibal Corpse.
Q: Do you have interesting hobbies?
I play guitar on full gain.
Q: What motivates you to do what you do?
Something inside me. It’s, it’s coming out.
