Drea Reine is an upcoming model from Denver, Colorado. Despite Drea’s hectic schedule modeling, working on a fashion line and developing a model management company, she agreed to complete a spotlight interview for Urbanity Chic. Read the full interview below to discover who inspires her, how she prepares for a shoot and what she does to relax when not working.
Q: Who are you called?
Drea Reine is my stage name. Andrea is my first name and Reine is French for Queen. I thought the name would fit perfectly since I wanted to keep my originality, and since I am of French decent, use my heritage.
Q: How did you get into fashion modelling?
I got into Fashion modeling when I went to a casting call at 14 years old. I wanted to be an actress and a woman told me that I should pursue modeling. I took her word and did a couple of shoots and fell in love with the trade. Since I have an exotic look it is easy for me to pull of any genre in the modeling field.
Q: Who inspires you?
My Mother inspires me. As a single parent she always told me the ups and downs in and outs of life. She inspires me just by knowing that if she can overcome obstacles and be successful in life, I can as well. I look at her as a role model, and will take all the advice she has given me, all the time and make a difference for myself and my daughter.
Q: Which modern day fashion designers or fashion icons do you look up to?
I look up to Beyonce. I love her fashion label Dereon and what she represents as a singer, designer, actress and African American woman. All the way from the shoes to attitude. She does it big. And it inspires me to also bring it in the entertainment business as a model and aspiring singer.
Q: Do you prefer to shoot on location or in the studio?
I love both, they both are a different atmosphere and attitude. The studio gives you that dramatic look, while location like a lovely waterfall brings out that natural beauty within you. I do more location shoots than anything else, but always look forward to shooting in studios.
Q: How do you prepare for a fashion shoot or show?
I get a ton of rest, I eat light and listen to music to clear my mind. Shopping for wardrobe is a favorite of preparation and practicing smizing in the mirror. Even getting to know the photographer, make up artist and other staff to lighten the mood at the shoot.
Q: Do you have a favourite photograph?
I don’t have a particular favourite. I love all of them! They represent me to the fullest, but inspire me to find a favorite.
Q: What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion is sexy, trendy and bold. It makes a statement. Its a name, a face. Fashion is more than just clothing, more than a runway, a photograph. Its an attitude and way of life.
Q: How would you define your personal style?
My personal style varies. I love jeans, but then again I love a good stiletto. Since I am a more curvy model. I love to extenuate my curves, but still keeping it classy.
Q: What are you hoping to achieve in 2011?
I am hoping to be the next big thing, like everyone else of course, but developing my own persona own style. I want to reach out with my music and modeling. Also I want to get into the fashion industry with my own shoe and perfume label sometime in the future. iModele is my up and coming model management company which was started in 2011. Be on the look out!
Q: What do you do to relax?
Music, mediation and candles help me relax. The soothing sounds of Jazz, R&B, Neo soul and Blues. Lavender candles surround my room whilst I meditate to music helps me get into my zone.
Q: What songs are on your ipod at the moment?
I am currently playing Marsha Ambrosious and Esperanza Spalding. These two ladies are very talented and highly recommended.
Q: Do you have interesting hobbies?
I love the outdoors. Fishing, rock climbing, hiking and camping. People don’t get that impression about me when they see my work, but I love the outdoors. I also love karaoke as well as writing poetry and music.
Q: If you could give a little piece of advice for new models or aspiring models what would it be?
My advice is to go full force and have fun. Try different aspects and genres of the modeling world, but also be smart. There are a lot of scams and scandals in the entertainment business. Always ask questions and always bring a friend to your shoots if possible.
Q: What motivates you to do what you do?
My daughter and myself motivate me. Every time I look at my daughter I see me and I push to strive and succeed in this business. She makes me feel younger and younger everyday and inspires me. When I am at my shoots I am self motivated and think how I can deliver the best and most creative image possible.
Editor’s Note: Drea is an extremely driven and talented model with a commercial look. We look forward to seeing how Drea’s career, both completing photo shoots, writing music and developing iModele, progresses through 2011 and beyond.
